Interested to join our team?

We are looking for curious, motivated and talented people interested in using cutting-edge electrophysiological, imaging and behavioral techniques to answer questions about the neural basis of cognition and behavior.

We encourage applications from people with non-traditional backgrounds.

Postdoctoral scientists

If you like asking hard questions, making things work, and pursuing creative ideas with state-of-the-art tools, this lab may be for you. Prior experience with neurophysiology and advanced data analysis is desirable.

Informal inquiries are welcome — write to nick.steinmetz@gmail.com.

Graduate students

Students interested in joining the lab for a Ph.D. should apply to a UW graduate program such as the Program in Neurosciences. Students from many programs are eligible to join the lab; please inquire for details.

Undergraduates and high-school students

Undergraduates run their own projects here and appear as authors on papers; several have won Mary Gates, Simons SURF and Goldwater awards while in the lab. We have also hosted a high-school researcher every summer since 2021 through the BRIGHT-UP program.
